Your Office is now open, and it's almost time for your shift. The Downtown bar and eatery occupies the former My Office space, which closed in 2020. Your Office pays homage to the beloved dive bar with many new perks and benefits.

There are two ways to enter Your Office. The obvious is through the front door at 763 N. Milwaukee St. But there's also a secret "speakeasy" entrance that's available only to "employees." (Ask about this during your visit.)

The owners, who were strangers a year ago, feel the project has been a proverbial payday.

"It's been magical how this all came together," says Lisa Proeber, who co-owns the establishment with industry veterans Nick Starr and Michael Sorge. "We work really well together. Some meetings, we're high-fiving like we're in (the movie) 'The Step Brothers.'"

The bar menu, available throughout the day and night, is a delightful range of offerings, from Busch Light in a can to a hand-muddled "Sconnie Old Fashioned." Other cocktails include "The Water Cooler," a mix of Rehorst citrus honey vodka, Mountain Berry Powerade and fresh lemon, "Your Office Bloody," "PTO Spritz" and more. Wine, NA products and THC drinks are also available (for those who don't get drug tested at work.)

Your Office opens daily at 7:30 a.m., at which time guests can walk in, walk up to the service window or order via mobile coffee and/or breakfast. Breakfast items include a half dozen choices, including the "HR Violation," which is a breakfast bratwurst in a toasted roll topped with scrambled eggs, American cheese and sauteed onions. There's also a "Morning Commuter" breakfast sandwich, "Green Initiative" avocado toast, "Scrambled Sesh" breakfast bowl, "Cinna-boss" smashed and griddled cinnamoon roll pancakes and more.

The space breaks out into a lunch spot, happy hour hangout and nighttime destination that's open until bar time. Food is available the entire time. Menu items include the house burger called "The Promotion Patty," a thick-cut fried bologna sandwich called the "Bologna Policy," "The BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado on toast) Memo" and more. A variety of snacks, from bagged chips to pickled eggs, are also available.

Prices are affordable, with only one item more than $10.

"Keeping the food and drink menu cheap is extremely important to us," says Proeber.

The vintage "office" details are delightful: vintage beer signs, old school telephones, typewriters, floppy discs, ugly ties from the '70s, and employee recognition plaques of all kinds, some of which were donated by customers.

The restrooms are co-ed, but decorated as stereotypically "men's" and "women's." The changing table in the "ladies" room is a nice touch and a reminder that, at certain times, Your Office is family-friendly.

The project was a big one: to create a bar with food that's comfortable, quality, non-pretentious, deeply aesthetic and inclusive to all. Our two cents? Project completed.

"We want Milwaukeeans to feel at home here, and people from out of town to say this is the place that perfectly reps Milwaukee," says Proeber.
